Business Partnership Hosted Mental Health & Stress Seminar

Event Kicks Off Workplace Wellness Educational Series

Area businesses came together on Thursday, April 6th to attend “Managing Mental Health & Stress in the Workplace: Unraveling the Mystery.” In conjunction with Healthier Somerset, this was the first in a series of workplace wellness educational programs scheduled by the Somerset County Business Partnership (SCBP) throughout the year. The event was hosted at Natural Medicine, Rehabilitation and Pain Management at 399 Campus Drive in Somerset, NJ.

In support of Stress Awareness Month, the distinguished panel of experts provided guidance for employers and HR professionals, who face mental health issues that affect employees, including addiction, prescription drug and alcohol abuse, mental illness, and stress.

The panel included Carrier Clinic® President & CEO Donald Parker, LCSW, who was named recently on the NJBIZ Power 50 Healthcare list. Mr. Parker highlighted the prevalence of mental illness, the costs to productivity, and the symptoms to look for in the workplace. He was joined by Patricia Taylor, LPTA, MLT, Director of Patient Relations at Natural Medicine & Rehabilitation, who taught techniques to reduce the physical and emotional effects of stress and Patrick Revello, LAC-MA, Staff Therapist at Anew Wellness, who shared private and community resources that are available to find help.

“We were excited to kick off the SCBP’s 2017 Workplace Wellness Educational Series with a program on Managing Mental Health & Stress in the Workplace,” commented Mike Schatzki, Co-chair of the Business Partnership’s Workplace Wellness Committee. “We put together this educational series because we want to provide employers in Somerset County with the essential tools they need to support their employee’s health, productivity, and overall well-being. Since 80% of workers feel stress on the job and nearly half say they need help in learning how to manage stress, starting the series with a program focusing on mental health and stress reduction makes perfect sense.”

The next workshop, “Improving Employee Wellness & Productivity through Fitness” will take place on June 22 at The Toy Box in Raritan, NJ. There is no cost to attend. Register online at or by calling the Somerset County Business Partnership at 908-218-4300 ext. 30.

The SCBP’s Workplace Wellness Educational Series is sponsored by Sharonview Federal Credit Union.
